Ten Years of Autoimmune Encephalitis Testing

AUTOIMMUNE ENCEPHALITIS

In Autoimmune Encephalitis (AE), the body's immune system attacks the brain, causing inflammation.

Since some symptoms overlap with other more common neurological manifestations, diagnosing AE can be challenging. Consequently, many AE patients are misdiagnosed.

An early diagnosis is crucial, as the patient outcome is significantly improved with early treatment.

10 YEARS OF DATA

Wieslab Diagnostic Services has been performing autoimmune encephalitis testing for ten years this year. We are in the process of compiling all the data to get meaningful insights into how the test results have changed over time.

CONCLUSIONS

AE testing at Wieslab has increased significantly over the decade
Overall, around 6% of samples are positive
Serum samples are more common (62%) than CSF
Positive serum and CSF samples have different antibody distributions

FUTURE PERSPECTIVES

In the future, we hope that further analyses of the results will yield new insights into gender differences and differences in results over the year and across different sample sources.
