Diagnostic test for antibodies against Alpha-Enolase. For suspicion of paraneoplastic retinopathy (Carcinoma Associated retinopathy CAR).

Indication

Sample material

Serum

  • Minim. volume: 0,5 mL

Interpretation

Alpha-enolase antibodies are detected in paraneoplastic retinopathy (Carcinoma Associated Retinopathy, CAR) which is associated with melanoma.

These autoantibodies are believed to inhibit the catalytic function of alpha-enolase and increase intracellular ATP, resulting in the destruction of retinal neurons.
