Diagnostic test for antibodies against HOMER3. For suspicion of autoimmune encephalitis/autoimmune cerebellar ataxia.

Suspicion of autoimmune encephalitis or autoimmune cerebellar ataxia

Method

Cell-based assay (CBA), indirect immunofluorescence (IIF)

Reference interval

Serum: <1:100 negative

CSF: negative

Result

Results are reported as negative or positive. A positive result is followed by a titer (serum).

Interpretation

Autoantibodies against Homer-3 are reported with autoimmune cerebellar ataxia, and in a few cases, associated with underlying malignancies. The analysis can be considered during the investigation of subacute cerebellar ataxia of unknown cause.
