DIAGNOSTIC TEST 111

IA-2 Antibodies

Diagnostic test for antibodies against IA-2. For suspicion of risk of developing type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Indication

Suspicion of type 1 diabetes (T1D)

Sample material

Serum

  • Minim. volume: 0,5 mL

Transport

  • Within Sweden: room temperature
  • International: cold

Method

ELISA

Reference interval

< 10 IU/mL

Result

Results are reported as negative or positive with a concentration.

Interpretation

IgG-antibodies against IA-2 is a marker for type 1 diabetes (T1D) and occurs in 60-70% of patients. Usually other autoantibodies associated with T1D can be found simultaneously. Elevated levels, without manifested T1D, may occur in other autoimmune endocrine diseases, in particular autoimmune thyroiditis.
