DIAGNOSTIC TEST 200

Neuronal Antibody Screen – Tissue-Based Assay (TBA)

Diagnostic test for antibodies against neuronal antigens. For suspicion of autoimmune neuroinflammation.

Indication

Suspicion of autoimmune neuroinflammation

Sample material

Serum

  • Minim. volume: 0,5 mL

CSF

  • Minim. volume: 1,5 mL

Transport

  • Within Sweden: room temperature
  • International: cold

Method

Tissue-based assay (TBA), indirect immunofluorescence microscopy on hippocampus and cerebellum (murine).

Reference interval

Serum: <1/10 negative

CSF: negative

Result

Results are reported as negative or as a finding that indicates presence of antibodies. These findings are verified with antigen specific methods.

Interpretation

Screening of antibodies against neuronal antigens analyzed by immunofluorescence microscopy on sectioned murine brain tissue. Antibodies against neuronal antigens are detected as fluorescens patterns dependent on the antigen’s distribution in the tissue.

The test could be requested as initial screening investigation. If a pattern specific to an antibody is detected, the specificity is verified by antigen specific method.

The test can also be requested for samples that initially have been analyzed with antigen specific tests:

  1. The test is recommended when antibody mediated neuroinflammation is suspected. Positive findings are verified with an antigen-specific method.
  2. The test is also recommended as a complement for samples with negative results on antigen specific tests, since more antigens are exposed on neuronal tissue.
