Diagnostic test for antibodies against parietal cells. For suspicion of pernicious anemia and atrophic gastritis.

Indication

Suspicion of pernicious anemia and atrophic gastritis

Sample material

Serum

  • Minim. volume: 0,5 mL

Transport

  • Within Sweden: room temperature
  • International: cold

Method

Indirect immunofluorescence (IIF)

Reference interval

<1:10 negative

Result

In autoimmune gastritis, antibodies against parietal cells are directed against H+K+ATPase and can lead to atrophic gastritis and pernicious anemia due to B-12 deficiency. Autoimmune gastritis is often associated with autoimmune thyroid disease.
