Result

Drug concentration is reported as µg/mL. ADA is reported as a concentration (AU/mL).

Interpretation

Tocilizumab acts as an IL-6 inhibitor. Low or unmeasurable concentration of the biologic pharmaceutical is associated with poor clinical effect. One explanation can be that anti-drug antibodies (ADA) block the effect and enhance clearance of the drug. If interested, analysis of ADA can be performed. The analysis is requested separately.

Presence of drug in the test sample may prevent the detection of ADA. To avoid this, the sample should be drawn just before the next dosing of the drug (drug trough level).
