DIAGNOSTIC TEST 110

Insulin Antibodies

Diagnostic test for antibodies against insulin. For suspicion of type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Indication

Suspicion of type 1 diabetes (T1D)

Sample material

Serum

  • Minim. volume: 0,5 mL

Transport

  • Within Sweden: room temperature
  • International: cold

Method

CLIA

Reference interval

COI < 0.9 negative, COI 0.9-1.1 borderline

Result

Results are reported as negative, borderline, or positive with a Cut-Off Index (COI).

Interpretation

IgG-antibodies against insulin can be found in type 1 diabetes (T1D) but the prevalence is lower compared to antibodies against GAD-65 or IA-2. During treatment with insulin the antibodies can be absorbed resulting in false low values. Sampling for detection of antibodies against insulin shall therefore be performed when the blood level of insulin is as low as possible.
