Celebrating 35 Years of Wieslab: Knowledge & Diagnostic Expertise
This year, Wieslab celebrates 35 years of diagnostic services and close collaboration with the healthcare community. Since its founding in Malmö in 1991, Wieslab has evolved from a specialised diagnostic laboratory into an established centre of excellence in autoimmune and neurological diagnostics.
Over the past 35 years, our work has been driven by scientific expertise, continuous method development, and close collaboration with clinicians and researchers. Throughout this journey, our objective has remained the same: to support healthcare professionals with reliable diagnostic testing and expert guidance that contribute to more informed clinical decision-making.
As our understanding of autoimmunity and neuroinflammation has advanced, so too has Wieslab’s diagnostic offering. New analytical methods, expanded testing panels, and specialised expertise have enabled us to address changing clinical needs and support the diagnosis of increasingly complex disease states.
A significant part of this development has been built through collaboration. By working closely with clinicians, researchers, and healthcare partners, we have contributed to the development of diagnostic strategies that support earlier detection and more confident assessment of complex immune-mediated diseases. The introduction of testing for conditions such as NMOSD, autoimmune encephalitis, neurofilament-based biomarkers, and advanced tissue-based methods are examples of how our diagnostic capabilities have continued to evolve.
“Over the past 35 years, Wieslab has grown from a specialised laboratory into an established diagnostic partner for clinicians across the Nordic region and internationally. Our development has been built on a combination of scientific excellence, close collaboration with the healthcare community, and a clear focus on supporting patient-centred diagnostic decision-making. The knowledge we have built together with clinicians and researchers continues to form the foundation of our work in autoimmune and neurological diagnostics.” says Rita Martins Olofsson, Head of Wieslab Diagnostic Services.
The trust of our customers has been central to Wieslab’s development. Many healthcare professionals value the combination of specialised expertise, high analytical quality, and the opportunity to discuss complex diagnostic questions with our scientific team. These collaborations continue to contribute to the development of both our services and our diagnostic offering.
“While we celebrate 35 years of diagnostic services, we also continue to invest in the future. We are expanding our diagnostic capabilities, improving tools that help clinicians select the most relevant analyses, and developing new ways to share knowledge and clinical insights with the healthcare community. In the coming months, we look forward to introducing several exciting additions to our offering.” says Lina Tebbla, Global Technology Manager, Wieslab Diagnostic Services.
As we mark this milestone, we would like to thank all customers, collaborators, and colleagues who have contributed to Wieslab’s development over the past 35 years. Together, we have built extensive knowledge and expertise in the diagnosis of autoimmune and neurological diseases. That work continues with the same focus as from the beginning: supporting healthcare professionals with diagnostic solutions that contribute to better clinical decision-making and improved patient care.
