DIAGNOSTIC TEST 990
Tau
Diagnostic test for Tau. For Alzheimer's disease, memory examination, and CNS injury.
Indication
Suspicion of Alzheimer's disease, memory examination or CNS parenchyma injury
Sample material
CSF
- Minim. volume: 0,5 mL
Transport
- Within Sweden: frozen
- International: frozen
Method
Chemiluminescence enzyme immunoassay (CELEIA)
Reference interval
< 18 years: < 300 ng/L
18 - <50 years: < 360 ng/L
≥ 50 years: < 409 ng/L
Result
Results are reported as a concentration (ng/L).
Interpretation
Total Tau reflects axonal decomposition. Tau is a structural protein that mostly occurs in cortical unmyelinated axon, where it bind to microtubules with a stabilizing effect. Increased level of total Tau can be seen as a biomarker for Alzheimer's disease, and other neurodegenerative diseases in the central nervous system as well as stroke.
