Results are reported as a concentration (ng/L).
Interpretation
Total Tau reflects axonal decomposition. Tau is a structural protein that mostly occurs in cortical unmyelinated axon, where it bind to microtubules with a stabilizing effect. Increased level of total Tau can be seen as a biomarker for Alzheimer's disease, and other neurodegenerative diseases in the central nervous system as well as stroke.

Tolkning
Total Tau speglar axonalt sönderfall. Tau är ett strukturellt protein som mest förekommer i kortikala, omyeliniserade axon där de binder till mikrotubuli med stabiliserande effekt. Ökad nivå av total Tau kan ses vid Alzheimers sjukdom och andra neurodegenerativa sjukdomar i centrala nervsystemet samt stroke.
