Interpretation
Smooth muscle antibodies (SMA) is a marker for autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) type 1 and a positive reaction is often observed in patients at the time of diagnosis. The antibody levels decrease during immunosuppressive treatment and a low positive SMA level can also be found in about 5% of healthy individuals.

Tolkning
Antikroppar mot glatt muskel är markör för autoimmun hepatit (AIH) typ 1 och oftast ses en tydligt positiv reaktion vid diagnos. Vid immunsuppressiv behandling sjunker antikroppsnivån och svagt positiv SMA kan även ses hos ca 5% av i övrigt friska.
