Interpretation
Increased levels of phosphorylated neurofilament heavy protein (pNfH) in CSF can be found in several diseases with neuronal/axonal damage in the central nervous system and correlates with levels of neurofilament light protein (NfL). High levels have been reported in ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) and in the early phase it may support the diagnosis and predict a more rapid disease progression.
The following intervals apply for result interpretation in CSF:
> 1.52 ng/mL: Increased level
0.69-1.52 ng/mL: Borderline
< 0.69 ng/mL: Normal

Tolkning
Förhöjda nivåer av phosphorylated neurofilament heavy protein (pNfH) i CSF kan ses vid olika tillstånd som medför neuronal/axonal skada i centrala nervsystemet och samvarierar med nivån av neurofilament light protein (NfL). Höga nivåer har rapporterats vid ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) och i tidigt skede kan det vara ett stöd för diagnos och indikera ett aggressivare sjukdomsförlopp.
Följande referensintervall gäller för resultattolkning i CSF:
> 1.52 ng/mL: Förhöjd nivå
0.69-1.52 ng/mL: Gränsvärde
< 0.69 ng/mL: Normal
