Interpretation

Antibodies against streptococci can be detected after infection with beta-haemolytic streptococci group A and may be of some value in suspected rheumatic fever, acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis (APGN), or erythema nodosum. The antibody levels begin to rise about 1 week after the infection and reach their highest value after 3-5 weeks. Two samples at an interval of at least 4 weeks are recommended to determine the seroconversion. Positive anti-streptolysin-O is found in 80% of patients with rheumatic fever or acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis (APGN).

Resultat anges som negativt eller positivt med koncentration.

Tolkning

Antikroppar mot streptokcoker kan påvisas efter infektion med beta-hemolytiska streptokocker grupp A, och vara av visst värde vid misstanke om reumatisk feber, akut post-streptokock glomerulonefrit (APGN) eller erythema nodosum. Antikroppsnivåerna börjar stiga ungefär en vecka efter infektionen och når sitt högsta värde efter 3-5 veckor. Två prov med minst 4 veckors intervall rekommenderas för fastställande av serokonversion. Positiv anti-streptolysin O ses hos 80% av patienter med reumatisk feber eller APGN.
