Indication
Investigation of angioedema
Method
The analysis is performed on plasma with nephelometry.
Result
The result is reported as normal, elevated or reduced in g/L. Reference interval: 0.16-0.36 g/L.
Interpretation
An elevated concentration of C1-inhibitor can be seen in hereditary angioedema (HAE) type 2. Further test of C1-inhibitor function is recommended if HAE type 2 is suspected. This is also the recommendation if C1-inhibitor concentration is normal. Low levels of C1-inhibitor may indicate hereditary angioedema (HAE) type 1 or consumption of C1-inhibitor (may be seen in some malignancies). The result should primarily be verified with a new sample as well as to include analysis of concentration of C4.

Tolkning
Förhöjd koncentration av C1-inhibitor kan ses vid hereditärt angioödem (HAE) typ 2. Komplettering med test av C1-inhibitorfunktion rekommenderas om misstanke på HAE typ2 finns. Det rekommenderas även om C1-inhibitornivån är normal. Sänkt nivå kan tyda på hereditärt angioödem (HAE) typ 1 eller konsumtion av C1-inhibitor (kan ses vid vissa maligniteter). Resultatet bör i första hand verifieras med nytt prov för verifiering och även inkludera analys av koncentration av C4.
