Properdin
Indication
Investigation of complement deficiency. Properdin should always be analyzed in patients with meningococcal disease.
Method
The analysis is performed on plasma with addressable laser bead immunoassay (ALBIA).
Result
Results in serum are given as normal, elevated or lowered with a value in mg/L. Reference intervall: 11.4-23.1 mg/L.
Interpretation
Vid activation of the alternative pathway, properdin is consumed. Therefore, the properdin content can be used as a complement activation marker, especially in post-streptococcal nephritis and in sepsis. Hypocomplementemia with low properdin content in sepsis is a prognostically serious finding.

Resultat i serum anges som normal, förhöjd eller sänkt tillsammans med ett värde i mg/L. Referensintervall: 11.4-23.1 mg/L.
Tolkning
Vid aktivering av den alternativa vägen förbrukas properdin. Därför kan properdinhalten användas som komplementaktiveringsmarkör framför allt vid post-streptokocknefrit och vid sepsis. Hypokomplementemi med låg properdinhalt vid sepsis är ett prognostiskt allvarligt fynd.
