CalproGold is a turbidimetric immunoassay for laboratory use, measuring calprotectin concentrations in patient samples. The assay is used in differential diagnosis and follow-up of patients with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) and is intended to fit on most major open clinical chemistry platforms. This reduces turnaround time for samples, thereby making patient care more effective.

A unique feature of the new CalproGold assay is its use of gold particle-conjugated antibodies, which gives the assay excellent sensitivity as well as a high linear range.

Combined with the Calpro EasyExtract™ device (CAL0510), quick and accurate extraction is achieved with the pre-filled tubes, which further simplifies the fecal calprotectin diagnostic workflow and reduces hands-on time. It is an ideal solution for high throughput applications in the routine laboratory.

Advantage through technology

Immuno-gold creates both turbidimetric and colorimetric reactions. This yields a more sensitive reaction that is less affected by factors such as impurities and microorganism contamination compared to latex.

Another direct benefit of using gold particles is related to the size. Gold particles are smaller than their latex counterparts, resulting in a much higher surface-to-volume ratio. A larger surface covered in antibodies improves detection capacity over standard latex-based reagents.

Exclusive raw materials

CalproGold is built on monoclonal antibodies (mAb), which are developed by Calpro AS. These antibodies are solid and stable, and used in other fecal calprotectin assays developed and used by Calpro. mAbs ensure superior production reproducibility compared to products based on polyclonal antibodies.

DiAgam SA is an expert in colloidal gold preparation and has brought a number of successful products to market based on this technology. CalproGold has been produced to harness the strengths of both companies.

Excellent correlation to Calprolab

CalproGold is tailored to match Calprolab on the ELISA platform, one of the leading fecal calprotectin products on the market.

High throughput and a short time to results

Turbidimetric assays have the benefit of a very short time to results – just 10-12 min on automated instruments depending on the instrument and related application settings. Still, it is much quicker than many other methods, such as CLIA and ELISA.

Short pre-analytics

EasyExtract™ is the ideal extraction device for stool samples used with CalproGold. With sample collection and extraction in one, the lab technicians do not need to spend much time on sample preparation.

It also has an excellent correlation to the golden standard method of weighing, with R2=0,94. With little handling, one can really benefit from high throughput platforms.


How does it work?

CalproGold – the turbidimetric assay process

CalproGold turbidimetric assay is based on the use of gold nanoparticles coated with α-Calprotectin antibodies. Increased levels of calprotectin will cause turbid solution due to the formation of agglutinates between the antibody-coated gold particles and the calprotectin molecules.

The sample is then analyzed with light transmission, and the concentration of calprotectin can be determined as it is inversely proportional to the amount of light transmitted.
